What upset Bernardo Silva so much about Man City’s defeat to Bournemouth

Manchester City aren’t too familiar with losing Premier League matches.

For instance, in the previous campaign which saw City become the first side to lift four consecutive Premier League trophies, they only lost three matches in total.

Last weekend saw Pep Guardiola’s side lose their unbeaten streak as they were handed their first league defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss at Bournemouth.

After the match, Kyle Walker said he was disappointed by the defeat but gave full credit to the Cherries for their efforts whilst refusing to use City’s hefty injury list as an excuse for the result.

With the Blues now turning their attention to the Champions League again with an away clash against Sporting CP, one particular figure in City’s squad has shared his thoughts on the impact the defeat to Bournemouth has had on him.

Bernardo Silva shares ‘frustrating’ verdict on Bournemouth defeat

While reflecting on City’s recent run of results, Bernardo Silva gave this assessment of the club’s recent defeat at Bournemouth in a recent press conference.

He said: “Bournemouth is much more frustrating for me personally because that is our main competition right now – they were better than us, that is what is frustrating.

“They were better in all departments. We have to deal with that.”

Phil Foden shared honest admission after Bournemouth loss

Silva was not the only City player to address this defeat, as Phil Foden said City weren’t at their best during the match against the Cherries.

Following Antoine Semenyo’s ninth-minute opener, Evanilson doubled the home side’s lead in the second half before Josko Gvardiol bagged a consolation goal for the Citizens in the final 10 minutes of the match.

Even though City had more possession (64% vs 36%) and shots at goal (18 vs 12) than Bournemouth, the home side had more big chances (6 vs 3) and forced Ederson into making four saves throughout the match, whereas Mark Travers only had to make three.

While the champions earned themselves an overall team rating of 7/10 from SofaScore, Bournemouth were given a superior rating of 7.14, highlighting why Silva thinks Andoni Iraola’s side were better on the day.
