‘Whatever it takes’: Pundit says ‘world class’ player should do all he can to join Man City

Pundit Steve Nicol has claimed that Declan Rice should only consider making a move to Manchester City this summer instead of Arsenal.

As things stand, both clubs have had transfer bids rejected by West Ham United for the midfielder.

This has since led to one pundit sharing his views on the two interested sides and which one the 24-year-old should look to join in this window.

Speaking in a recent video on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Nicol said then when asked if Rice should move to City or Arsenal this summer.

He said: “Man City, absolutely, 100%. I don’t even think it’s actually close.

“Unless Declan Rice has been an Arsenal fan and has his blinkers on and wants to be in London, all of that periphery stuff, if that is more important to him, then he goes to Arsenal.

“But for football terms, get yourself on a car, on a plane, on a train, on a bus, whatever it takes to get yourself down to Man City.”

Bearing in mind how City have not only just won the treble, but have secured five of the previous six Premier League titles as well as picking up numerous other domestic trophies under Pep Guardiola, the likelihood of winning silverware must be a factor that makes a move to the Etihad Stadium a tempting one for Rice.

Also, the opportunity to play under the City boss, who has coached midfielders such as Sergio Busquets and Xabi Alonso throughout his career, would presumably be an exciting thing for the Hammers star in terms of improving his game and learning more.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Nicol thinks a move to City would be the best option for the Englishman, who has been hailed as a “world-class” player by journalist Adrian Durham previously, from a footballing point of view.

We feel that if the club can convince the midfielder to join them, they will need to strike a deal that is suitable for West Ham and do it before Arsenal potentially get in first.
