Matheus Nunes is still waiting for his time to shine at Manchester City but he may be doing so for a while.
Manchester City have a near-spotless record in the transfer market over the last eight years but they have had two misfires when it comes to midfield.
Kalvin Phillips never settled at the club and is now on his second loan spell after joining Ipswich Town for the season and Matheus Nunes appears to be heading in a similar direction.
The dynamic midfielder made little impact in his debut season and with talk of Ilkay Gundogan returning to City, his minutes look set to be reduced even further.
Can Nunes turn things around and make himself a star at the Etihad? Only time will tell but here is everything you need to know about him.

Matheus Nunes finger injury
Nunes suffered one of the nastiest looking, but thankfully not serious, injuries in recent memory during the 2023/24 season when he dislocated his finger.

Playing in the Champions League last 16 clash with FC Copenhagen, Nunes landed awkwardly on his hand and ended up bending his finger the wrong way. It was a disgusting injury that forced him off the field but didn’t keep him out of action for long.
TNT commentator Darren Fletcher said after witnessing the injury: “His finger was bent grotesquely.”
