Manchester City have produced a number of exceptional talents, such as Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb – now another is emerging in Matty Warhurst.

The 17-year-old appeared for the Citizens late on in the EFL Trophy defeat to Barnsley on Tuesday evening, and while the 3-1 loss was a disappointing result, the teenager’s season so far has been anything but disappointing.

So, who is Matty Warhurst? Let’s take a look…

Who is Matty Warhurst?

Well, the Staylybridge-born prospect is enjoying himself this season.

Warhurst has impressively scored five goals in just three Under-18 Premier League appearances so far this term.

The Manchester City academy starlet also made an appearance in the 5-2 UEFA Super Cup win over Red Star Belgrade, which is an Under-19 competition.

Clearly, those in charge of the Elite Development Squad at the Etihad Stadium have high hopes for Warhurst, given the fact he is being handed chances above his age group.

The aforementioned EFL Trophy is also an Under-21 competition, so the Citizens are evidently keen to test their precocious talent.

In terms of his position, the youngster can actually operate in two different areas across the frontline.

Warhurst has made two appearances as a centre-forward so far this season, scoring four goals in those outings.

The Manchester City gem has also played on the left wing this term, where he scored in his one appearance in that position.

If Warhurst keeps progressing through the ranks like he currently is at the age of just 17, we see no reason why he can’t at least earn a spot on the bench under Pep Guardiola before the 2023/24 campaign is over.
