Wolves will ‘almost certainly’ sign Man City-owned player this summer

Wolves are reportedly almost certain that they will sign Tommy Doyle on a permanent transfer deal from Manchester City this summer.

After the Manchester club signed Matheus Nunes from the Midlands club towards the end of the previous summer transfer window, the Old Gold landed a season-long loan deal for Doyle that included an option for them to buy him permanently for £4.3m this summer.

Now at the midway point of the season, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding Wolves’ current stance on the Englishman and the chances of them signing him permanently and the end of the campaign.

A recent report from The Athletic had this to say on the matter.

It said: “Wolves sold Nunes to Manchester City in the final days of the summer window for a fee of £53m ($67.4m), then in a deal that was officially separate but which clearly became entangled in the Nunes negotiations, they signed Doyle on loan from City with a £4.3m purchase option, which they will almost certainly trigger at the end of the season.”

During his time at City, the 22-year-old made 86 youth appearances and featured in seven senior matches.

Last season saw the midfielder complete a season-long loan spell at Sheffield United where he helped them win promotion back to the Premier League, scoring four goals and supplying seven assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

Since joining Wolves, Doyle has started five of the 14 games he’s appeared in, scoring his first goal for the Old Gold in last night’s FA Cup clash against Brentford that stopped Gary O’Neil’s side from being knocked out of the competition.

Even though he hasn’t been a regular starter for Wolves, the fact that the club are almost certain they will take their option to sign Doyle permanently in the summer says to us that they are already convinced by the player and what he offers the club on and off the pitch.
