‘Won’t be leaving’: Journalist says it’s going to be so hard for Man City to sign 28-year-old now

Manchester City still have half an eye on the midfield market this summer.

The Cityzens have already signed Matteo Kovacic from Chelsea, but after Ilkay Gundogan’s departure, there’s still a feeling that the Premier League champions could do with getting another body through the door.

According to Graeme Bailey, speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Manchester City do have an interest in Joshua Kimmich, but, unfortunately for Pep Guardiola, the German is not likely to be leaving Bayern Munich this summer and City will have to look elsewhere.

City fans of Kimmich

Bailey shared what he knows about Kimmich.

“Ryan Gravenberch we need to keep an eye on, Leon Goretzka has been linked with a move but he’s determined not to leave Bayern. Joshua Kimmich again, he won’t be leaving this summer, City have an interest in him, but it doesn’t look like he’s moving on,” Bailey said.

Would’ve been brilliant

This is really frustrating, because Kimmich would have been absolutely perfect in this Manchester City team.

Capable of playing as either a number six or a number eight, Kimmich would’ve been brilliant in terms of adding depth to this side, but, interestingly, that’s not where we’re envisioning him playing.

Indeed, you may remember a few years ago that Kimmich was doubling up as a right-back, and we can’t help but thing that as an inverted full-back in this Pep Guardiola team, he would be a star.

Of course, playing in that role isn’t easy, but given that Kimmich has shown he’s world class as a full-back and as a midfielder, he could be incredible well-suited to this hybrid role.

Unfortunately, as Bailey says, Kimmich wants to stay at Bayern, and we may not get to see this dream signing now.
