Ally McCoist was blown away by the performance of Manchester City target Jarrad Branthwaite earlier on Saturday.

The 61-year-old praised the Everton No.32 while speaking on commentary duty for TNT Sports.

So, what did Ally McCoist say about Manchester City target Jarrad Branthwaite? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Scot singled the England Under-21 international out for praise despite Everton suffering a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

McCoist said: “Outstanding. He’s worked his socks off.”

It comes after the Daily Mail revealed that Manchester City are keeping an eye on Branthwaite as a result of his consistently brilliant performances for Everton under Sean Dyche.

The 21-year-old has now cemented himself in the starting XI at Goodison Park, making seven starts in the Premier League so far this season.

Branthwaite recently earned himself a new three-and-a-half year contract as reward for his excellent progress, although that is highly unlikely to end Manchester City’s interest.

Manchester City not just looking at Jarrad Branthwaite

Despite only just signing Josko Gvardiol in a £77.6m deal from RB Leipzig back in August, it seems Pep Guardiola wants another central defender at the Etihad Stadium.

In addition to rumours about Branthwaite, there has been talk of Manchester City taking a look at Giorgio Scalvini of Atalanta.

It was Calciomercato who claimed that the Citizens are interested in the Italy international.

Guardiola already has plenty of options in his centre-back department, such as John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and the aforementioned Gvardiol.

Therefore, moves for Branthwaite or Scalvini may not happen anytime soon, although it suggests Manchester City are well prepared to deal with any departures.

To give them credit, the recruitment team at the Etihad Stadium are superb at swiftly finding replacements for key players, having dealt with the exits of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Vincent Kompany to perfection.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Manchester City, as Branthwaite and Scalvini remain on the radar.
