Joleon Lescott has claimed that Phil Foden will be considered as one of the best English players of all time.

The 23-year-old is currently preparing for his seventh Premier League campaign in Pep Guardiola’s side after making his top-flight debut back in December 2017.

Having picked up his fifth Premier League title, second FA Cup and first Champions League trophy at the end of last season, the winger has found himself on the end of some heavy praise from one former City player.

Speaking in a recent livestream from the club’s official YouTube channel, Lescott had this to say about Foden.

He said: “Phil is someone I really love to watch play. I know how enthusiastic he is about the game, I don’t want to say it but it’s like we underestimate how good he actually is.

“He’s world-class, Phil Foden is world-class and he’s going to be one of the greatest players England have ever produced. It’s just a pleasure to say he’s associated with Man City.”

With 217 senior appearances under his belt, the winger has scored 60 goals and delivered 41 assists for the Manchester club across all competitions.

Having played so many games for the club after making his way through their youth ranks at such a young age, this backs up why Lescott is such a big fan of the player and why he thinks he could be seen as one of England’s best players if he continues to impress and win titles at City.

Last season saw the England international score 15 goals and supply eight assists in 48 appearances, which not only shows how important he is for Guardiola but also how effective he can be in front of goal when called upon.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, the fact that Riyad Mahrez has now left City to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli could give Foden the chance to become a regular figure in the starting XI rather than find himself in and out of it like last season.
