Nathan Jones lauded Manchester City attacker Phil Foden during his side’s 2-1 victory against Luton Town on Sunday.
On BBC Sport (10/12/2023), the former Southampton boss also praised the connection between Foden and Alvarez during the contest.
Nathan Jones raves about “world-class” Phil Foden as Manchester City beat Luton Town
The 23-year-old started as a No.10 for the treble-winners, with Julian Alvarez replacing the unavailble Erling Haaland in the side as the lone striker.
As Manchester City left Kenilworth Road with three points in the bag, Nathan Jones heaped praise on Phil Foden as well as Julian Alvarez.

“It is interesting to see the understanding between Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez. Foden becomes the nine at times, Alvarez drops in. They are world-class players; the understanding is excellent”, Jones told BBC Sport.
The Englishman has always had his admirers, with even Steve Bruce recently hailing him as an “outstanding talent” as well as zeroing in on how well he has done to become a first-team regular in a team like City.
Phil Foden looked exciting as a No.10 once again
Nathan Jones is right to have described Phil Foden as a “world-class” player as he looked the part as an attacking midfielder for Manchester City once again during their latest win against Luton Town.
Especially in the first-half, the five-time Premier League winner was arguably their standout performer.
Phil Foden constantly found space in the pockets, carried the ball extremely well, showcased his technical elegance and stitched the attack in advanced areas in brilliant fashion.
Even when Foden received the ball in deeper areas, he played a major role in helping City in their build-up against Luton Town’s high press.
While the decorated technician has looked like the real out wide as well as a false nine, it is clear to see that his best position is as a No.10.
Whether Pep Guardiola persists with Phil Foden in a more central role is the question, especially as the club lack too many viable options on the right wing.
