‘Would be unfair’… Frank Leboeuf backs Man City to do something very special this season

Frank Leboeuf has backed Manchester City to win the Champions League again this year.

Yesterday, it was announced that the Citizens will face off against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and then take on either Arsenal or Bayern Munich if they progress to the semis.

This then led to one pundit and former Premier League player having his say on who he thinks will end up lifting the Champions League trophy at Wembley Stadium.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Leboeuf had this to say when asked who he thinks will win the Champions League this season.

He said: “Of course, Manchester City because I see City going through against Real Madrid and winning against Bayern Munich, I see Bayern Munich going through.

“I see City winning again, I know it’s hard to win twice in a row but I don’t see anyone stronger than City. It would be unfair to say otherwise.

“The final is the final, if you play against Atletico Madrid in the final, you never know what can happen. You always expect to win and suddenly you realise that you are losing and you’re about to lose against that team. I will trust [that] City are capable of doing it twice, winning the Champions League.”

Having played eight games in the Champions League this season, the Treble-winners have won all eight, scoring 24 goals and conceding nine along the way.

As well as scoring more goals than any other team to feature in the competition this season, Pep Guardiola’s side have racked up the highest average of shots per game (21.4), percentage of possession (71.3%) and passing accuracy percentage (92.7%).

City’s overall performances have earned them a team rating of 6.93/10 from WhoScored, the second-highest in the competition behind Real (6.95), which highlights how much of a mouth-watering quarter-final tie it will be between the two sides.

If the Blues do go on to win the Champions League again as Leboeuf has spoken about, this would undoubtedly increase their status as the best side in European football.
