It has now been reported that Lucas Paqueta would be extremely keen on a summer transfer to Manchester City.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was claimed on Wednesday that West Ham United were unwilling to sell the Brazilian international for a fee lesser than £85 million.

Now, it has been revealed that Lucas Paqueta would fancy a move to Manchester City.

Fabrizio Romano: Lucas Paqueta ‘would love to’ join Manchester City

Branded as ‘absolutely incredible’ by Declan Rice (via Evening Standard), it was reported on Wednesday that Pep Guardiola’s men had made an initial £70 million to prise him away from the London Stadium.

However, the Hammers were never willing to let go of the former Lyon midfielder for such a fee ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Lucas Paqueta ‘would love to’ sign for Manchester City.

The Italian journalist has also reported that while there is a release clause worth £85 million in his contract, that is only set to become activated in June 2024.

Lucas Paqueta would be a cracking signing but there are a couple of question marks

While there is no disputing that Lucas Paqueta is one hell of a player, for his potential acquisition at Manchester City to be considered as one that could deliver success, there are certain question marks already.

For starters, if the treble-winners agree to West Ham’s demands of forking out an £85 million fee to sign the former AC Milan attacker, that would be an overpay to say the least.

Considering Paqueta is simply not at the level currently to demand such a hefty fee and in addition, his time in the Premier League has been a mixed bag.

Additionally, it would be a real shame if the thought process at the Etihad Stadium is to primarily use Lucas Paqueta in midfield, considering Phil Foden seemed touted to finally play in his natural position next season.

Foden is not only a bigger talent than the Europa Conference League winner but to add to that, his skillset suits Guardiola’s demands for a potential Gundogan successor and as a result, Paqueta should be viewed as a potential option at right-wing.
