Ally McCoist fears that Jack Grealish could end up missing out on selection for England’s Euro 2024 squad as a result of his injury problems.
Grealish has endured a frustrating 2023/24 season so far, making just 27 appearances across all competitions so far.
Grealish has not been helped by the arrival of the lively Jeremy Doku, who is direct competition for him on that left wing. The emergence of Oscar Bobb is also something that makes life more difficult.
But Grealish remains an important player for Pep, and the injuries have undoubtedly been the biggest factor in his stop-start season so far.
For Ally McCoist – who this morning also commented on Joao Cancelo’s new comments about Pep Guardiola – Grealish is now potentially in a bit of danger regarding England’s final Euro 2024 squad…
Ally McCoist expresses fears for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish amid injury problems

England are currently gearing up to face Belgium on Tuesday, after being beaten by Brazil at Wembley on Saturday.
Grealish was not called up by Gareth Southgate for these games, as he still isn’t 100% fit.
The player suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury for City against Luton Town on February 27, and has been working hard to get back fit. He was named on the bench by Pep Guardiola for the FA Cup game against Newcastle United just before the international break, but did not play.
The setback he had at Luton was the third injury he’s had this season, and McCoist is worried about his chances of making the England squad for Euro 2024. Especially with other players now emerging.
He said on talkSPORT: “No, but he has dropped because of injury and because of the performances of Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon.
“Unfortunately for Jack the fitness has certainly hampered him and sadly for Jack we’re at a stage where it wouldn’t be a shock if he doesn’t make the squad, he has got to get back fit and back playing.”
Grealish will surely be picked if he stays fit
Jack Grealish has never been an England regular, but it would be a total shock if he was not picked if he stayed fit between now and the end of the season.
We’re talking about a player who played a key role in City’s most successful season ever in 2022/23, under potentially the greatest manager of all-time.
He perhaps may not get the amount of goals or assists that he should, but Grealish is ‘unique’, as labelled previously by Pep.
He’s a ball-retention and control player, capable of dictating the pace of games. He also buys fouls superbly well, which is an underrated quality of his because set-pieces can obviously lead to goals.
He simply has to go the Euros if he has proven his fitness.
