Manchester City fans have reacted after spotting what Rico Lewis did following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

Goals from Rodri and Julian Alvarez helped the Citizens end 2023 without suffering a single defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

So, what did Manchester City fans see Rico Lewis doing on Saturday? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City fans spot gesture from Rico Lewis

Well, Manchester City posted heartwarming footage of the England international giving his shirt to a ballboy after Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Blades.

However, a few eagle eyed supporters noticed what Lewis said to the ballboy in question through the art of lip reading and body language.

It appears that the ballboy initially shows reluctance to accept the Manchester City No.82’s shirt, and you can faintly hear something along the lines of “not allowed” – presumably, ballboys are told not to take or ask for shirts, in case it leads to every ballboy at matches doing the same.

However, Lewis appears to nudge his shirt even closer towards the ballboy, scrunching up his face as if to say “nothing will happen to you, don’t worry” – it was a lovely act from a player who was a ballboy himself not that long ago.

One Manchester City fan described the moment as “class” while another simply wrote “wow” on X (previously known as Twitter).

Two more Manchester City fans commented on the footage.

One stated that moments like this are exactly why they love having City Football Academy graduates involved under Pep Guardiola, as they “just get it”.

Another daydreamed about the ballboy in question becoming another Micah Hamilton – a player who was also a ballboy himself just a few seasons ago.

Last but not least, two other Manchester City supporters shared some thoughts.

One predicts that the ballboy will become a teammate of Lewis in future.

Another simply called the 19-year-old a “class act” before adding that they love him.

Clearly, the thoughtful gesture went down very well among the Manchester City fanbase.
