“Wrong”… Ally McCoist now criticises £375,000-a-week Manchester City player

Ally McCoist has now criticised Manchester City No.9 Erling Haaland for his treatment of Simon Hooper.

The 61-year-old made the comments when speaking on talkSPORT alongside Jeff Stelling.

So, what did Ally McCoist say about Erling Haaland? Let’s take a look…

What Ally McCoist said about Erling Haaland

Well, the Scot felt that the Norwegian overstepped the mark when confronting Hooper on Sunday.

If you are not aware, Haaland screamed in the 41-year-old’s face after he strangely decided to bring back the play and award Manchester City a freekick, despite the fact Jack Grealish was through on goal in the 94th minute.

The £375,000-a-week Norway international has avoided punishment for that outburst – with Manchester City instead charged by the FA for failing to control their players – a verdict which McCoist thinks is fortunate for the striker.

Haaland also managed to escape punishment for his post on social media after Sunday’s 3-3 draw against Tottenham.

Speaking about the FA’s decision, McCoist said: “I think he’s lucky Jeff. As wrong as the reaction was, I could understand that a little more than the tweet.

“You cannot have the top striker in the world screaming in the face of a referee – it’s not on. You cannot have it. I don’t care what anybody says. Not a good image at all. He was probably one that went over the top more than most.”

Erling Haaland overdid it – but Manchester City should expect better from officials

Yes, there is no doubt that Haaland went a little bit overboard with his furious reaction.

However, the 23-year-old and Manchester City should expect better from Hooper.

Think about it. The scores were level, Grealish was through on goal, and if Manchester City end up losing out on the Premier League title by a point or two in May, many will look at this incident as a pivotal moment.

With so much on the line, Manchester City should expect to see better officiating – especially with a decision as simple as this one was.
