Mauricio Pochettino has named Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as one of the three greatest managers to have ever graced the game.

In an interview with Sky Sports Premier League’s official YouTube channel, the Chelsea manager was quizzed about who he regards as the best coach of all time.

Mauricio Pochettino says Pep Guardiola is one of the three greatest managers of all time

Hailed as a “special coach” by former Manchester City captain and Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Pep Guardiola made history last season by becoming the first manager in the history of the game to have won two trebles in his career.

Once again this term, it would not be a surprise to witness the Catalan tactician add several more medals to his trophy cabinet as City’s dominance over European football seems inevitable for the next couple of years.

When questioned about which manager he thinks is the greatest the game has ever come across, Mauricio Pochettino named Pep Guardiola alongside two other legends of the sport.

“Few. Few. But you can say Sir Alex Ferguson, now you can include Pep Guardiola and then you can say Carlo Ancelotti”, the Argentine told Sky Sports.

The domestic dominance of Pep Guardiola in different leagues could swing the debate his way

Ultimately, whether Mauricio Pochettino singled Pep Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson or Carlo Ancelotti out as the undisputed greatest, hotly-contested debates would have followed such a claim.

But one argument that perhaps fans and pundits may look back at that could hand the Sky Blues boss the edge is how he dominated different leagues like no other.

Sir Alex Ferguson perhaps only managed in a single country that is universally associated with having a world-class league at its disposal, which may not help his case in this debate.

As for Carlo Ancelotti, his league record does not make for the best reading, winning only five titles in a career spanning over three decades.

Guardiola, on the other hand, has only lost three league titles in his career, whilst having only managed at senior level for 15 years.

Ultimately, Pep Guardiola’s domestic dominance across the board is undeniably unprecedented.
