Shay Given has claimed that Jeremy Doku will be eager to play in Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
The winger scored his first City goal since arriving at the club from Rennes in a deal worth £55m during the recent summer transfer window last weekend in the Citizens’ 3-1 win over West Ham United.
With the league champions back in action this afternoon as they welcome Forest to the Etihad Stadium, one pundit and former City player has shared his thoughts on Doku and what frame of mind he’ll be in ahead of today’s clash.
Given says Doku will be confident for Forest clash
Speaking in a recent edition of Team Talks by Premier League Productions (via Optus Sport), Given had this to say about Doku.
He said: “He had a great game against West Ham, he was very direct, very quick. I think they gave him the ball and left him to it, he created lots of different chances.
“Obviously got on the scoresheet himself so you’d imagine the confidence that would give him leading into the game at the weekend.”
Looking back over the win against the Hammers, the 21-year-old played 89 minutes of the game and not only did he score the first of City’s three goals as Given said, he made three key passes in total, showcasing how much of a threat he carried.
This then led to Pep Guardiola hailing the Belgian and his “unbelievable” performance at the London Stadium after the match.
With all of that in mind, it’d be no surprise if Doku was looking forward to potentially being given the chance to impress again for his new side this afternoon.
Moving forward, if the summer recruit does start today’s match and is able to deliver a performance similar to his one from last weekend, he’ll give his side a great chance of keeping their 100% win record going and potentially find himself on the end of even more praise as a result.
