Wayne Rooney has admitted that he would love to work as an assistant manager under Pep Guardiola.
The 38-year-old referred to the Catalan boss as “the best manager” in the world.
In January, the five-time Premier League winner was sacked by Birmingham City just 15 games into his tenure, out of which he only managed to win a mere two matches.
Wayne Rooney admits he would love to be the assistant manager under Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola
After John Eustance was shown the door with Birmingham City being in sixth place in the Championship, the Croxteth-born manager was brought in but his spell left the club in the relegation zone.
Currently, Rooney is out of work.
But if given the chance to be the assistant manager for Pep Guardiola, Wayne Rooney has admitted that he would be open to the opportunity.

“It depends [on if I would ever be an assistant manager], if Pep Guardiola comes in and asks me to be his assistant, you’d walk there”, he said about the prospect of working with the £378,846-a-week tactician on The Overlap’s Stick To Football.
“But you see what [Mikel] Arteta is doing now and I strongly believe a lot of that is from learning what Guardiola was doing and so it depends on what the situation is.”
Controversial admission from Wayne Rooney
Considering Wayne Rooney is a Manchester United legend, the fact that he would be willing to work with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City would likely not go down well with the Old Trafford faithful.
It would not be a stretch to claim that not only is Rooney considered an icon in the red side of Manchester but he has a case for being the club’s greatest-ever player.
But it seems like the Englishman is keen on honing his craft as an up-and-coming manager and there would perhaps not be a better person to learn the rules of the roost from than Guardiola.
Wayne Rooney seems to rate the work of Pep Guardiola so highly that he is willing to put rivalries aside to work with him, which emphasises just how impactful a figure the latter is in management.
