Manchester City and Liverpool go head to head on Sunday. Once a game between 1st and 2nd, it’s now between 1st and 4th.
Man City and Liverpool have been neck and neck in the race for the Premier League title in recent seasons. On most occasions, City have come out on top. Though this season looks set to be Liverpool’s season.
Pep Guardiola’s side sit in 4th place of the Premier League table after a 4-0 win over Newcastle United in their last league fixture. But City come into Sunday’s game on the back of a 6-2 aggregate defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Liverpool are experiencing a little blip of their own too. Arne Slot’s side have won just one of their last four in all competitions, notably losing against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup and then drawing with both Everton and Aston Villa in the league.
Sunday’s game promises to be a spectacle regardless of form. But ahead of the match at the Etihad, one of Guardiola’s former assistants has posted a rather bizarre story on social media, aimed at Guardiola himself.

Domenec Torrent’s bizarre message to Pep Guardiola ahead of Man City vs Liverpool
City fans may remember the name Domenec Torrent. The Spaniard worked as an assistant to Guardiola at Barcelona, then Bayern Munich and then Man City, leaving in 2018 to take on the New York City manager’s job.
Since, the 62-year-old has managed Flamengo and Galatasaray and is now the manager of Mexican side Atletico San Luis. But posting on Instagram, Torrent shared a story which shows an old picture of himself and Guardiola at City, but with the caption ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. Bizarre indeed given the timing of the post.

Why Liverpool fans are fuming ahead of Man City clash
A win for City on Sunday would do everyone at the club a world of good. They could do with a confidence boost and of course points in their quest to finish inside the top four this season.
For Liverpool, the stakes are even greater, given their title push and their recent dip in form. And ahead of the game, Liverpool fans have been left fuming after it was announce that Anthony Taylor has been named referee for the game.
Taylor is from the Greater Manchester area and often ahs Liverpool fans up in arms when he’s appointed for their games.
City though will simply play their usual game. They remain a team brimming with talent but confidence certainly looks to have taken a hit after that defeat at Madrid in the week.
