Phil Foden has said that he really hopes Ilkay Gundogan to stay put at Manchester City ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

The treble-winner was quizzed about the £20 million (Guardian) man’s future via Football Daily after England’s 7-0 thrashing of North Macedonia.

As is the case with any and everyone associated with Manchester City, Phil Foden also seems to be hoping and praying that Ilkay Gundogan stays put.

The Stockport-born attacker is clearly a huge admirer of the Sky Blues captain, branding him as a ‘clever player’ and one of the best he has ever played with in his career.

It is hard not to appreciate the 32-year-old, who proved once again last season that he is not only incredibly clutch but as an all-round midfielder, remains one of the best in the world.

After England massacred North Macedonina in a Euro 2024 qualifier, Phil Foden admitted that he is hoping Ilkay Gundogan stays at Manchester City.

“100%. He always turns up for us in crucial games, so yeah, he’s really important for us.”

Ilkay Gundogan should make his teammate’s wish come true

Having completed football at club level, one can understand why the German international would be looking for a new experience in the form of playing in Spain and for a European juggernaut like Barcelona.

However, Ilkay Gundogan is still in his prime and could continue dominating football alongside Phil Foden at Manchester City for at least two more seasons until Pep Guardiola’s time at the club comes up.

Off the back of winning a treble, City have a real chance to go on a run in Europe especially, whilst becoming the first club in Premier League history to complete a four-peat of titles.

In addition, Gundogan could well and truly cement his legacy as a true all-time great of the game.

Just practically speaking, it should be a no-brainer for the silky No.8.
