Manchester City are keeping an eye on Everton No.32 Jarrad Branthwaite – who has been in fantastic form so far this season.

The England U21 international is actually the only Premier League player to achieve one thing this term.

So, what has Manchester City target Jarrad Branthwaite done? Let’s take a look…

Well, according to WhoScored, the 21-year-old is the only outfield Premier League player yet to be dispossessed this season, of those with at least 15 starts under their belt.

That is quite the accomplishment – to say the least.

It was the Daily Mail who claimed that Manchester City are monitoring the Carlisle-born defender.

Pep Guardiola – who has often spoke about the importance of ball retention and high possession statistics – will surely take note of this achievement by Branthwaite.

As far as central defenders go, the Everton star is developing into an ideal one for the Spaniard’s preferred style of play – it is no wonder that people have compared him to John Stones.

Manchester City face competition for Branthwaite

The Citizens are not the only side keen to sign Branthwaite after he secured a place in Everton’s starting XI.

A story from the Daily Mail claimed that Real Madrid also want to sign the towering centre-back.

Carlo Ancelotti worked with Branthwaite during his time in charge at Goodison Park, and is considering a reunion following injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao.

However, any bid for the Englishman may have to reach at least £100m with Everton holding out for a nine figure fee – as reported by iNews.

Nevertheless, that is simply the going rate for top English centre-backs nowadays. Just look at the £85m deal involving Harry Maguire made back in August 2019 as one example.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Branthwaite could be Guardiola’s next significant English purchase after the £100m signing of Jack Grealish in August 2021.
