It has been reported that Manchester City are keen on signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

This comes from the Daily Mail as the 21-year-old continues to make waves for Sean Dyche’s side.

Now, it seems like Manchester City are plotting a potential transfer for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Manchester City keen on hijacking Manchester United’s move for Jarrad Branthwaite

Branded as a ‘terrific player’ by former Carlisle United manager Steven Pressley (via Everton’s official website), the youngster is considered as one of the most talented centre-back prospects in English football.

An intelligent reader of the game, comfortable in possession and a physical specimen, the highly-rated talent certainly has all the raw attributes to reach the absolute top.

Now, it has been revealed that Manchester City are ‘keeping an eye’ on Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite after all.

However, Pep Guardiola’s men are one of the many English clubs interested in securing the Englishman’s signature.

For instance, the Carlisle-born defender is on Manchester United’s transfer wish list alongside Jean Clair-Todibo and Antonio Silva as they aim to bolster their backline in the January window.

Unlikely that Branthwaite is a major priority for the treble-winners

While Jarrad Branthwaite has tons of potential, one questions whether Manchester City would be serious enough to make a move for him anytime soon.

After all, no club in world football possesses their enviable roster of centre-backs, with John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Josko Gvardiol and Manuel Akanji being some of the best defenders in Europe.

Even if Branthwaite agreed to sign for the Sky Blues, the question is how he would be able to manage any game time at senior level.

All of City’s current defensive options are more established than him, with there also being no question marks around any of the aforementioned names’ futures.

As young defenders go, even Chelsea were reported to internally feel that Josko Gvardiol is one of the three best centre-halves in the world, which makes the interest in the Toffees fan favourite sound like it may not amount to much.
