Josko Gvardiol has seemingly offered an apology following the 4-4 draw between Manchester City and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Sunday’s contest in west London was one of the best games so far this season in the Premier League, and in the end, a draw was probably a fair result.
Cole Palmer came back to sting his former club, scoring a penalty deep into injury time after a foul by Ruben Dias on Armando Broja. This, after Rodri thought he’d scored a deflected winner.
It was unusual to see City so sloppy defensively.
Manuel Akanji aside, the defenders Pep selected did not cover themselves in much glory.
One of those defenders, Josko Gvardiol, has actually apologised following the game…
Josko Gvardiol apologises after Chelsea 4-4 Manchester City

Gvardiol started on the left of City’s defence, and did not have his best outing. In fact, it was probably the shakiest he’s looked since he came to the club in the summer.
For the second Chelsea goal, while he got a bit unlucky in the end, the Croatian’s body position wasn’t great and Reece James was able to provide a cross for Raheem Sterling.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said that Pep Guardiola would not have been happy with his defending in that moment.
After that, Gvardiol looked uncomfortable for the rest of the game.
Yesterday evening, an apology was posted to Gvardiol’s official Facebook. It said simply ‘I’m sorry’ with a broken heart emoji. It is not clear if this was done by the player himself or a representative. But clearly, the 21-year-old was happy for that message to be made public.
There is no need for Gvardiol to apologise
It is a shame Gvardiol feels the need to apologise.
He may not have had his best game against Chelsea, but he simply does not need to say he’s sorry. Any player can have a game where they’re not quite at it. It is simply part and parcel of being a footballer. The fact this is his first poor display for City, given we’re three months into the season, is good going.
It’s not like the £130,000-a-week star got needlessly sent off or made an absolute howler.
Gvardiol has credit in the bank. Prior to Sunday, he had been superb for City playing on the left of the defence.
Given his quality, many will back him to bounce back from this display.
