As Manchester City drew 4-4 against Chelsea on Sunday, Jamie Carragher said Pep Guardiola must be furious with Josko Gvardiol.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the popular pundit made this claim after the £200,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man’s error in the build-up to Raheem Sterling’s strike.

Jamie Carragher says Pep Guardiola “won’t be happy” with Josko Gvardiol as Manchester City draw 4-4 to Chelsea

Described as “phenomenal” by Mateo Kovacic, the 21-year-old has taken to life at the Etihad Stadium like a duck to water.

But the youngster was certainly at fault for Raheem Sterling’s goal, with his body positioning being all over the place, gifting Reece James the chance to set up his teammate inside the box.

As Chelsea took the lead against Manchester City at the time, Jamie Carragher said Pep Guardiola would likely be disappointed after witnessing Josko Gvardiol in sixes and sevens at the back.

“Guardiola won’t be happy with his full-back. Gvardiol has to do better. But how many times have we seen Sterling in a City shirt score a goal like that at the back-post?”, Carragher told Sky Sports.

While the defending in the build-up to the goal from City was poor, with even Ruben Dias failing to cut out a key pass, the Croatian international was primarily at fault in this instance.

How Josko Gvardiol bounces back is key

Jamie Carragher certainly has a point but young players like Manchester City colossus Josko Gvardiol are prone to the odd off night, as was the case with him against Chelesea.

Mistakes happen to the very best and still being a developing prospect, it is only natural that Gvardiol made one at Stamford Bridge.

Aside from the individual error as well, the former RB Leipzig centre-back had quite a rough night at left-back and perhaps endured his most difficult evening in sky blue.

However, what will separate Josko Gvardiol from the rest is how he reacts after such a setback, as this seems to always be the ultimate difference-maker between the good and the great.
