Some fans react to ‘gutting’ news about Man City youngster Pep Guardiola called ‘special’

Liam Delap is reported to be facing around three months on the sidelines, after the Manchester City youngster suffered a knee injury on loan at Hull City.

Delap has been with the Tigers since the start of the season, with City officials hoping the youngster could get regular game time with the Championship side.

Delap made his first-team debut for City against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup back in September 2020, but found it difficult to break into the team.

To date, he’s only made six appearances for the first-team, so loan moves are seen as a way to bring on his development. His latest to Hull had been going well, but sadly Delap is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines…

Delap had been enjoying a really productive season at Hull.

The 20-year-old had scored seven goals for the club and had been enjoying life in the Championship and was a regular fixture in the Hull team under Liam Rosenior.

His fine performances even led to him making his debut for England’s U21s.

But Delap will now be spending time on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury ahead of the club’s FA Cup game with Birmingham City.

Rosenior said (via Hull Daily Mail): “He’s looking at hopefully two to three months minimum and it’s a real shame for him, for us and for everybody connected with the football club because he’s been such a bright spot. It’s an issue in his knee, but hopefully it can be fixed without surgery and that’s what we’re hoping for.”

Gutting news for Delap

This is such a shame for Delap, who had really been impressing in a Hull shirt.

He needed a big season for his hopes of being a first-teamer back at City next season, but he will now miss a large chunk of the season.

He should be back before end of the campaign, but there’s a chance he’ll struggle to get fully back up to speed and pick up where he left off.

It’s frustrating as well for City, with Delap – a player Pep Guardiola has previously said has ‘special quality’. and ‘is a different type of striker’ – now being robbed of the chance to increase his market value ahead of the summer.

Hopefully, all goes well with his rehab and he can return as quickly as possible.

Hull fans react

On social media, Hull fans have been reacting to the news about Delap.

It’s pretty safe to say that some are absolutely gutted to be losing a player who has been key for them:
