Manchester City are reportedly keen to sign Rennes winger Jeremy Doku – and his performance yesterday against FC Metz will have seriously encouraged Etihad officials.
There are now just a few weeks left in the transfer window.
It’s been a decent window so far from City.
Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol have both come in.
City have lost Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez which is a shame.
But Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to add more players.
Lucas Paqueta is a target for City.
And Doku is also on the club’s list.
And the club’s interest might well just be about to intensify given the performance he’s just put in for Rennes.
Man City target Jeremy Doku shines against Metz
The Ligue 1 championship kicked off this weekend.
And it was a fantastic day at the office for Rennes, who thumped Metz 5-1 on Sunday.
And Doku was arguably the star of the show for Les Rouge et Noirs.
He grabbed Rennes’ third goal, which came in the second-half to make the scoreline 3-1.
And interestingly, Doku’s goal celebration seemingly looked like a farewell, according to RMC Sport.
And then, when he was substituted off, Doku received a standing ovation. And his name was chanted repeatedly.
According to Sofascore, Doku won an amazing 14/18 duels, had 100% dribble success rate (9/9), had 100% cross success (1/1) and completed 35/38 passes (92%). Two of those were key passes.
Doku was handed a 9.3 rating, which was easily the highest of any player that featured in the game.
His performance was even described as ‘special’ by the official Ligue 1 Twitter account.
Doku looks a real livewire who could thrive at City
So Doku showed exactly why City have interest in him against Metz.
The star just looks a total livewire, and someone who could make for a really exciting addition.
At present, City do not really have someone who is pacy and direct in the wide areas.

For a while now, Pep Guardiola has preferred to use technical wide men like Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva and Mahrez before he left.
It would be a welcome change for City to have a winger with immense speed again.
The squad hasn’t had such a player since Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane left, and it would certainly be fun to see.
It’s been claimed Rennes expect City to place a bid for Doku in the coming week. They value the player over £30 million, so it will be interesting to see if an agreement can be reached.
