Manchester City are said to be in talks over a deal to sign Leny Yoro from Lille – with Manchester United also keen.

That was covered here on Manchester City News following a recent exclusive from le10sport in France.

There is yet to be any development on this situation – although Leny Yoro has now featured in a chart which will surely make Manchester City want him even more…

Leny Yoro is one of Europe’s most effective defenders

Well, French statistics page DATA Foot – who use numbers from Opta and Wyscout – have now revealed that the Frenchman ranks highest for successful ground duels of any defender in Europe this year.

Yoro succeeds in 80.4% of his ground duels – which DATA Foot state are considered lost if the player commits a foul, is overtaken or lets the opponent cross or shoot.

Therefore, the Lille No.15 is clearly an imposing figure in the heart of defence.

Le10sport believe Manchester City have already opened negotiations to sign Yoro – who is valued at €30m (£26m) by the CIES Football Observatory – although Manchester United are also in talks.

The France Under-21 international has made 21 appearances for Lille so far this season, scoring three goals.

Manchester City could certainly use Leny Yoro

Pep Guardiola could do with a defender like Yoro – so far this season, his current options have looked a little soft as goals are regularly conceded.

Manchester City have already conceded 20 goals in 17 Premier League outings this term, having shipped just 33 in 38 Premier League games last season.

There have been some truly chaotic clashes involving the treble winners this term, including the 4-4 draw against Chelsea and the 3-3 draw with Tottenham.

Therefore, perhaps a no nonsense defender like Yoro – who is rarely beaten – is exactly what Guardiola needs at the Etihad Stadium.
