Bernardo Silva continues to be linked with a move away from Manchester City – but the club are reportedly thinking about bringing him alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland as a top earner at the club.

At the moment, Bernardo has interest in him from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

He is also wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia.

The Portugal international is thought to be keen to move away from City, having signed for the club back in 2017 from AS Monaco.

It has been a highly successful spell for him so far.

Despite being so successful at the club, it is thought Bernardo isn’t too keen on living in Manchester and would prefer a move to a warmer climate.

It remains to be seen what will happen, but City are apparently now ready to make a big play in order to convince him to stay.

90min reported yesterday that club officials are now ready to hand out one of the biggest contracts they’ve ever given to a player.

And frankly, this would be the right move by the club.

Bernardo Silva deserves to be a top earner at Manchester City

Ultimately, offering Bernardo a lot more money may be futile.

He has been linked with a move away from the club for the last few summers now.

But City would be right to try and bring him alongside the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne as a top earner at the club.

It is simply no less than he would deserves.

Bernardo is every bit as influential for City as those two players, and he has been making important contributions for some time.

Bernardo does it all. He is technically superb, but has the work-rate to boot. Players like that are a rare commodity in football.

Earlier this year De Bruyne hailed Bernardo as being a ‘smart’ player, and joked that he could play about 19 different positions.

His versatility makes him a manager’s dream. Pep Guardiola certainly loves Bernardo, saying of him earlier this year: “If you want statistics, you can go to big data and write a big article about that.

“But there are some things that people don’t come to in the data. It’s something that is unique. And Bernardo is unique. Bernardo helps us to play in a different pause to have to make the explosion. He is unique. Bernardo is unique in the world in doing this.”

He has also branded him ‘a special player’.

According to Spotrac, Bernardo is a fairly modest earner at City on £150,000-a-week – the same as Kalvin Phillips.

Haaland is on £400,000-a-week and De Bruyne is on £375,000-a-week.

Surely, a world-class player like Bernardo should have parity with those two superstars. Hopefully, City do offer him such a contract and he would be willing to at least consider it.
