£32m Chelsea player’s future is in doubt as Manchester City and Guardiola keep an eye on the situation

Chelsea are still unsure about the future of Ian Maatsen – a player Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are keeping a close eye on.

That is according to the Telegraph.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Ian Maatsen? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was 90min who claimed that Guardiola is keeping an eye on the Dutchman’s situation at Stamford Bridge, as he refuses to sign a new contract in west London.

Maatsen’s current terms expire in July, and Chelsea actually accepted a £31.5m bid from Burnley on transfer deadline day.

However, the 21-year-old himself rejected a move to Turf Moor, despite spending the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Vincent Kompany’s side.

Chelsea have since made two contract offers to their academy graduate, the latest of which was worth more than what Burnley were offering.

Now – according to the Telegraph – the situation remains unchanged, and Chelsea would be forced to consider offers for Maatsen in January as things stand, or else they risk losing their £31.5m asset for nothing.

Don’t be surprised to see Manchester City bid for Ian Maatsen

As opined on Manchester City News on Thursday, it certainly seems as if Guardiola is keen to sign a new left-back based on the rumours emerging from the Etihad Stadium.

There have been links to the likes of Alejandro Balde, Federico Dimarco and Valentin Barco in addition to Maatsen across recent weeks, all of whom play in that area of the pitch.

Therefore, we would not be surprised to see Manchester City make a bid for the Chelsea No.29 in January, as his contract situation means a cut-price deal could be on the table.

Be sure to keep an eye on this developing situation, as Maatsen could be moving to the Etihad Stadium this winter unless Chelsea can convince him to sign a new deal.
