Michail Antonio has now advised Kalvin Phillips to leave Manchester City for Juventus – not Newcastle.

The 33-year-old made the comments when speaking on The Players Channel podcast for BBC Sport.

So, what did Michail Antonio say when asked about Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look…

Kalvin Phillips told to ignore Newcastle

Well, the West Ham No.9 was asked where he thinks the England international should go as he prepares to leave Manchester City this month.

A story from talkSPORT stated that Phillips is keen on a switch to Newcastle, although Manchester City and the Magpies are currently at odds over the conditions of the deal, causing talks to stall.

It is believed that Manchester City want Newcastle to sign an obligation to buy the 28-year-old at the end of the season, although those at St James’ Park would prefer a straight loan deal.

According to The Times, Juventus are also interested – Manchester United have been linked too.

Now, Antonio has told Phillips to head to Turin rather than Tyneside.

The Jamaica international said: “For me, I’m going Juventus. After Juventus it would be Manchester United, and then it would be the Magpies.”

Juventus may end talks with Manchester City

Even if Phillips did choose to join Juventus, there are some problems arising at the Allianz Stadium.

According to James Horncastle of The Athletic, the Italian giants may now find it “more complicated” to seal a deal for the England international, due to the tax break ruling in Serie A.

The journalist added that Juventus may also struggle to pay the Yorkshireman’s £150,000-a-week wages, and have a few talented central midfielders emerging from the youth ranks who could be given priority.

Therefore, some real doubts are emerging over both Juventus and Newcastle’s capabilities to sign Phillips this month, leaving his future clouded in uncertainty.
