Manchester United and Manchester City are experiencing differing fortunes this season, as they have been for the last several years at least. But neither side is having a whirlwind 2024/25 season.
Right now, Man City sit in 4th place of the Premier League table whilst Man United are way down in 14th, well on course for their worst ever Premier League finish.
Both teams have work to do in the summer and it looks like Man City are plotting a squad overhaul in the next transfer window, with Pep Guardiola keen to freshen up his side with some younger blood.
And it looks as though the midfield department will see a big shake up. Kevin De Bruyne is tipped to leave Man City after 10 years at the Etihad whilst Ilkay Gundogan is out of contract: the German wants to play for Galatasaray before he retires and this summer could be the perfect time to do so.
Both names will need replacing and one player who Man City could turn towards is very familiar to United and manager Ruben Amorim.

Manchester City linked with Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga
An emerging report from Football Transfers has revealed that Guardiola has identified Real Madrid and France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as a prime summer target, and an ideal heir to the likes of Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
The report adds that Guardiola is ‘all in on this move, believing Camavinga is a perfect fit’ for City’s midfield. But just a few months ago, the 22-year-old Camavinga was being heavily linked alongside a move to Old Trafford.
Though it was rather quickly revealed that Camavinga had quite literally said ‘no thankyou’ to the possibility of moving to United. Alongside Amorim’s United, the likes of Arsenal and PSG have also been linked with Camavinga, with multiple reports having suggested an €80million (£67million) price tag.

How Eduardo Camavinga performed in the first leg vs Man City
Just a few weeks ago Real Madrid knocked Man City out of the Champions League with Camavinga featuring in both games. He played the full 90 of the first leg at the Etihad and came off the bench at the Bernabeu.
Here are his stats from that first leg, which Madrid came from behind to eventually win 3-2:
| Statistic | Eduardo Camavinga vs Man City (1st leg) |
| Passes | 42 (98% accuracy) |
| Touches | 59 |
| Key passes | 1 |
| Defensive actions | 3 (two tackles, 1 block) |
| Possession lost | 4 times |
| Duels | 11 (5 won) |
In La Liga this season, the former Rennes man has played just 12 times making two assists, with 24 appearances in all competitions having spent brief spells on the sidelines for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
He did start Real Madrid’s 2-1 win against Atletico in the Champions League in the week, though, playing 62 minutes before coming off.
