Even before the summer transfer window has opened, it looks like Manchester City might have their work cut out with regards to signing one particular transfer target.
Manchester City have a lot on their plate ahead of the summer transfer window, which officially opens for business for Premier League clubs on June 12th.
Pep Guardiola looks set to oversee an overhaul of the Man City squad this summer with the ageing City players having failed to live up to expectations in this 2024/25 season.
John Stones is tipped to leave and there’s also huge uncertainty over Kevin De Bruyne’s future, with the Belgian looking destined to leave as a free agent after 10 successful years at the Etihad.
The City midfield will certainly need bolstering and ahead of the summer transfer window, several exciting midfielders have been linked with moves to Manchester City.
Players from the Premier League and across Europe are being touted as possible City targets. One such player is Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United.

Manchester City handed worrying Bruno Guimaraes transfer update
Man City have been linked with Guimaraes for some time now. And it’s even been revealed that the £100million-rated Brazilian international has held private talks with Guardiola, possibly about the chances of him joining Man City in the summer.
Now though, an emerging report from Caught Offside has revealed that Barcelona have been tracking the 27-year-old and that they think now is the ‘right time’ to make a move for the midfielder.
The same report adds that Barcelona will now see if the move is a ‘realistic’ one for them, given their financial restraints and troubles, as Newcastle look unlikely to budge on their £100million valuation of the player.

Bruno Guimaraes told he’s been in ‘awful’ form recently
After Newcastle’s defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League in February, former Magpies player John Anderson said Guimaraes has been in ‘awful’ form recently.
He explained: “I think he has been awful lately. There was times where he looked like he couldn’t run. He was chasing shadows at times. (Ibrahima) Konate strolled past him as if he wasn’t there.
“He looked like he had no legs at all. I think he has been poor for a while. Some players are poor and get absolutely battered for it and some players are poor and no one mentions it.”
But the likes of Barca and seemingly Man City don’t think so. Both clubs appear to be getting more and more keen on a summer move for the Newcastle captain, who’s scored twice and assisted six more in 27 Premier League games this season.
It could be a crucial signing in the rebuild of both teams’ midfield. But the lure of Barca could well be greater than that of City, who are already 20 points behind Liverpool in the league table.
