Cole Palmer has now opened up on his departure from Manchester City after an impressive start to life at Chelsea.

The 21-year-old made the comments when speaking to Sky Sports.

So, what did Cole Palmer say about Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What Palmer said about Manchester City

Well, Pep Guardiola recently revealed that he told the England international he would receive plenty of game time after Riyad Mahrez left for Saudi Arabia, although the City Football Academy graduate still wanted to depart.

The Spaniard was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “I said to him, Riyad Mahrez is leaving, you are going to get a chance here. He said, no, I’m not going to play here, I want to leave. So I said, okay, leave.”

Now – however – Palmer has given a slightly different version of events.

The Chelsea No.20 told Sky Sports: “That was not my intention. I wanted to go on loan for a year, come back and be ready for the first team, but they said I couldn’t go on loan, either stay or you get sold.”

A very strange situation – to say the least.

Whatever the truth is, Palmer has shown everyone just how well the City Football Academy educated him with a fantastic start to life at Chelsea.

The £75,000-a-week man has scored eight goals in 16 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, while also providing four assists.

How much Palmer is worth now

According to the CIES Football Observatory, the attacking midfielder is now worth £90.5m – which is £48m more than the £42.5m Manchester City sold him for.

In that respect, if Palmer really did want a loan move, then perhaps that would have been the most sensible option from a financial aspect for Manchester City.
