Danny Mills has said that Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan is quite underappreciated in general.
The outspoken pundit was speaking to talkSPORT while lauding the £20 million (Guardian) man, off the back of his brilliant brace in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Danny Mills went out of his way to lavish praise on to Ilkay Gundogan, who has emerged as a protagonist for Manchester City once again.
Danny Mills raves about Manchester City maestro Ilkay Gundogan
Recently, even Gary Neville pinpointed how ‘underrated’ the 32-year-old has been, while branding him as ‘absolutely fantastic.’
After Pep Guardiola’s side won the FA Cup, Phil Foden also said that the German technician is ‘one of the best players’ he has ever played with.
Now, Danny Mills has lauded Ilkay Gundogan, who has rightly been heralded for his exploits at Manchester City, especially in recent weeks.

“He’s very underrated, I think. He’s one of those players that sometimes gets overlooked but when you take him out of the side, you go, ‘We’re not quite ticking. We’re not quite working.’
“What was it, two seasons ago where he had those 15 goals, scored something like that, he was absolutely sensational. Backend of last season, scores vitals, scoring obviously goals in the cup final.”
The brilliance of Gundogan is too subtle for the masses to appreciate
Danny Mills is right in saying that Ilkay Gundogan remains ‘underrated’, as unless he scores goals for Manchester City, he is often not spoken about in the same breath as some of the other elite players at the club.
Perhaps a key reason behind this is due to how subtle Gundogan’s game is.
The manner in which the two-time Bundesliga winner controls games, nicks the ball off opposition, dictates the tempo of the game and picks up the right pockets are aspects often not picked up by the masses.
As Ilkay Gundogan’s actions on the pitch are not particularly loud, many do not soak in the brilliance that is being captured right in front of their own two eyes.
