As reported by the Sun’s Martin Blackburn, AC Milan are one of the many European clubs eyeing a move for Man City full-back, Joao Cancelo.
AC Milan set their sights on signing Man City ace Cancelo
It seems as if the Portuguese international’s future is currently uncertain at the Etihad Stadium, especially since the return of club football.
The £60 million (BBC Sport) man has started just 2 games ever since, one as a right-winger against Chelsea, where he was hauled off at half-time and once against Southampton in City’s Carabao Cup exit.
Other than that, the likes of Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte have been preferred over him at left-back, while Rico Lewis has taken his place at right-back.
Keeping his declining status in recent weeks in mind, it seems as if AC Milan, amongst a number of suitors aim to capitalise on the situation by signing Man City full-back Joao Cancelo.
Considering the ex-Valencia sensation signed a new contract in 2022 till 2027, it would be an extreme turn of events if he decides to head for the exit door next season.
In our view: Unlikely that Cancelo joins the Italian giants
While the 28-year-old has not been at his mesmeric best in periods this season, there is no denying that he is one of, if not the best full-back in the world, once described by Bernardo Silva as an ‘amazing player.’
Taking that into consideration, one expects more successful clubs than AC Milan in recent times to have a higher probability of landing Joao Cancelo from Man City, if an exit is on the cards.
The ideal situations remains that Cancelo retains his place as first-choice left-back under Guardiola and reminds the world why he is a one-of-one full-back.
However, for the time being, he does not even seem close to a start, let alone cementing his place in the side.
