Al-Hilal set sights on Manchester City duo, including £220k-a-week star Pep left out against Chelsea

Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal are reportedly targeting two players from Manchester City.

Manchester City have had to deal with interest from Saudi for a lot of the summer, with Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne having previously been targets.

Both of those players will now be staying at the club for at least another season.

But there is interest from the SPL in two other City stars, but it remains to be seen if any more exits will be sanctioned at this stage of the window.

Julian Alvarez has already been sold, with Sergio Gomez leaving earlier in the summer.

One of these two players now being targeted by the SPL has been given the green light to leave. He was left out of the squad against Chelsea yesterday.

It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Al-Hilal are now interested in two City full-backs – club captain Kyle Walker, and Joao Cancelo.

Walker was a target for the SPL last summer. But a move never materialised, and Pep ended up convincing the player not to join Bayern Munich.

Walker stayed, signed an extension and succeeded Ilkay Gundogan as captain.

Cancelo reportedly fell out with Pep midway through the 2022/23 season over game time. He spent last season on loan at Barcelona, who he wants to rejoin permanently.

Earlier this week, Pep surprisingly suggested that Cancelo could yet be involved for City this season. Although some feel he may have said this just to prompt other clubs to step up their interest.

Cancelo was left out of the squad against Chelsea yesterday, in a potential reminder that Pep would prefer to move the player on.

Al-Hilal are interested in both, and their shortlist also includes Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.

The Saudi transfer window is open a little while longer, closing on October 6.

Good news regarding Cancelo

There is little chance that City are going to let Walker leave at this point in the summer. While he was not at his best last season, he remains an important player for Guardiola, and the club captain.

But Cancelo is someone who is free to leave, despite what Pep said earlier this week.

The interest from Al-Hilal could be good news regarding the £220k-a-week star’s potential sale.

They are likely to offer a fee that Barcelona currently can’t. But the issue, of course, is that Cancelo wants to join Barcelona again.

But Al-Hilal may have the financial might to turn Cancelo’s head.
