Manchester City have shown in the past that they are capable of signing players from fellow Premier League sides.
For example, in recent transfer windows, Pep Guardiola’s side have added the likes of Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes to their squad from various top-flight clubs.
Now though, one pundit and former top-flight manager has shared a claim about another Premier League star the Citizens reportedly have on their transfer radar.

Alan Pardew claims Man City target could become a mainstay in the England team
Speaking on talkSPORT, Alan Pardew had this to say about Adam Wharton after the Crystal Palace midfielder ended up being one of the three outfield players to not make an appearance for England in the 2024 European Championship.
He said: “Too early for Wharton this tournament, in my view, because he had what half a game for England as experience going into it.
“Wharton is an outstanding talent. He is someone I know well, obviously, at my doorstep at Crystal Palace. Great signing for them.
“He has the potential to fill that position [deep-lying midfielder for England]. He is a passer that makes the game look easy.
“He is exactly like Michael Carrick. Whether he gets to the level of Michael Carrick, we have to wait and see. I hope he does.”
Wharton could be a smart signing for City
Back in June, it was reported by The Standard that City had identified Wharton, who has previously said how much he admires Rodri, as a future transfer target following his move to Palace back in the previous January transfer window.
Across the 16 Premier League games he appeared in for the Eagles last season in the second half of the campaign, the midfielder provided three assists and racked up the joint-third-highest total of successful tackles made in the midfield third of the pitch (22).
This shows that he didn’t need much time to show how effective he can be on and off the ball in the top flight of English football and why Pardew thinks he could be a stalwart for the England national team in the future.
