Alan Shearer claims Man City star did something just like Lamine Yamal in latest Euro 2024 match

Lamine Yamal has been one of the standout players of the 2024 European Championship.

As one of the four Spain players to feature in all six games in the tournament, the Barcelona winger has scored one goal and delivered three assists to help his side get to the final.

With Spain now set to take on England, who have three Manchester City players in their squad, on Sunday for the final, one of the three City figures in Gareth Southgate’s side has recently done something very similar to Yamal according to one pundit and former England star.

Alan Shearer says Phil Foden did something similar to Lamine Yamal in England vs Netherlands

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport) during the first half of England’s 2-1 win over the Netherlands after seeing Phil Foden take a shot from outside the box that hit the woodwork, Alan Shearer said this on the matter.

He said: “That was so similar to Lamine Yamal last night. It opens up and Phil Foden does not need a second invitation! The connection is great.”

Foden will need to outshine Yamal if England want to beat Spain

Looking back to Spain’s 2-1 win over France in the first semi-final game, the 16-year-old scored his side’s first goal of the game with an impressive curling left-foot shot from outside the box.

With Foden, who Eberechi Eze recently said he really admires in terms of his style of play, taking a similar shot in last night’s match but hitting the woodwork instead of scoring, it’s understandable why Shearer made this comparison.

Taking into account how Yamal has made more key passes (16) and had more shots at goal (16) than any other Spain player in the tournament, this shows that Foden and the rest of his England teammates will have to make sure they contain the winger as much as possible if they want to be the winners on Sunday.
