Manchester City kept their unbeaten streak going on Sunday with their 2-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League.

For the fourth time in the league this season, City found themselves 1-0 down, as Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen put the home side ahead after just seven minutes.

Pep Guardiola then saw two of his defenders rescue his side as goals from Josko Gvardiol and John Stones secured the win for the champions to keep their unbeaten streak going.

Once the entire round of fixtures were completed, a pundit shared some significant praise for what one of City’s match-winning defensive figures did in the match against Gary O’Neil’s side.

Shearer hails Gvardiol for Wolves goal

Including Gvardiol in his team of the week shared on the official Premier League website, Shearer said this about what he saw from the defender against Wolves.

He said: “Man City needed something special to get past a deep-lying, resolute Wolves defence, and Gvardiol did just that with his brilliant long-range equaliser.”

Troy Deeney was stunned by Gvardiol’s goal

City paid RB Leipzig £77m to sign the 22-year-old back in the 2023 summer transfer window.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the defender has made 54 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals and three assists.

In fact, after his debut season at the Manchester club, Gvardiol was named the best signing of the season by Peter Schmeichel.

Against Wolves, with his side 1-0 down, Gvardiol took it upon himself to take a shot from outside the box which ended up flying into the top corner to put the score level.

Shearer isn’t the only pundit and former Premier League striker to praise the Croatian for his efforts at Molineux, as Troy Deeney praised Gvardiol for his equalising goal against Wolves, saying this after picking the defender in his own team of the week.

He said: “At Wolves, he produced a wonderful right-footed effort into the top corner exactly when his side needed it.”

Having impressed Shearer, who knows a thing or two about scoring goals, it’s clear that the City defender has a knack for finding the back of the net in a stylish fashion when needed.
