Manchester City managed to pick up another victory in their latest Premier League match.
Following the latest international break, City secured a 2-1 win against Wolves at Molineux on Sunday.
Not for the first time this season, Pep Guardiola’s side found themselves 1-0 down in the first half, as Jorgen Strand Larsen opened the scoring for the Old Gold in the seventh minute.
Josko Gvardiol then grabbed an equaliser with a stunning top-corner shot to put the score at 1-1 by halftime.
In addition to seeing Gvardiol score his second league goal of the campaign, another City defender did as well, with John Stones bagging a late winner to secure the three points for his side.
Following the match, Gvardiol shared a message to the City fans on his Instagram page about how his side will continue fighting until the end.
This match has now gone on to see one pundit share some big praise and one particular observation about one of City’s goalscorers against Gary O’Neil’s side.
Troy Deeney hails Josko Gvardiol after Wolves heroics
Having included Gvardiol in his team of the week, Troy Deeney said this about the City defender in his latest article for BBC Sport.
He said: “Every time I watch this guy he just gets better and better. Six feet tall, solid defender, strong on both feet and loves tackling. He has started adding goals to his game, too.
“At Wolves, he produced a wonderful right-footed effort into the top corner exactly when his side needed it.”
Gvardiol equalled Mohammed Salah’s goal record
The Croatian’s strike at Wolves saw Gvardiol equal Mohammed Salah’s record for the number of away league goals scored in 2024 with five goals.
Looking back to City’s final seven games of the previous Premier League season, the defender bagged four goals in this period to help the club secure their fourth consecutive league trophy.
Then over the Blues’ three previous league outings, the 22-year-old has found the back of the net twice.
Even though City have only kept one clean sheet in their eight league matches this season, if Gvardiol can keep firing in the goals and help his side keep winning games, he’ll end up being a key figure for them if they go on to win another title by the end of the season.
