Alan Shearer has said that he would not like to play in the same team as Erling Haaland.

The pundit told Amazon Prime Video Sport’s official TikTok account that the reason behind this is because he believes Haaland would not pass the ball to him.

Of course, this does not mean Shearer does not rate the Manchester City goalscorer extremely highly.

Alan Shearer states why he would not like to play with Erling Haaland

In late November, the Newcastle United legend described the £51 million (Metro) man as “the perfect centre-forward.”

Back in August, Shearer tipped the 23-year-old to get “even better” due to his outstanding natural talent and the fact that he is working with arguably the best manager in the world in Guardiola.

But when quizzed about whether he would rather play with Erling Haaland or Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer picked the latter.

“Rooney, Haaland would never pass to me but Rooney would”, he told Amazon Prime Video Sport’s official TikTok account.

Erling Haaland is quite an unselfish striker

Perhaps Alan Shearer assumes that Erling Haaland is quite selfish like most strikers are known to be.

Considering the Norwegian superstar is reputed for his insatiable desire for scoring goals as well, the pundit might think that he may refuse to pass him the ball in numerous instances.

However, this could not be further from the truth in the treble-winner’s case.

Last season, for instance, despite Manchester City leading 2-1 against Leeds United, when his side were handed a penalty, Erling Haaland allowed Ilkay Gundogan to take the spot-kick to complete his hat-trick.

Being City’s designated penalty-taker, Haaland could well have just stepped up and added to his tally of goals.

But instead, the former Borussia Dortmund talisman sacrificed his penalty.

Often, Erling Haaland also chooses to find a teammate in a better position than him instead of taking a shot, which is not a trait many associate with elite No.9’s.

But it is this unselfishness that Haaland possesses that makes him unique in yet another way.
