Danny Murphy has said that Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne is on another level to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, the pundit was involved in a game of ‘start, bench, sell’ that features the aforementioned duo and Bruno Fernandes.

Considering Danny Murphy considered the Manchester United skipper as the one to sell, he also believed that the debate between Kevin De Bruyne and Martin Odegaard was also a mismatch.

Danny Murphy says Kevin De Bruyne is on another level to Martin Odegaard

Branded as ‘unbelievable’ by Jack Grealish, the Belgian playmaker is already regarded by many as the greatest Premier League midfielder of all time.

However, due to certain down spells last season, many put forth the Norwegian technician as the standout midfielder in English football.

But as the dust has settled and the 2023/2024 season is about to start, Danny Murphy believes Kevin De Bruyne is on another planet to not just Bruno Fernandes but Martin Odegaard as well.

“Oh, come on. De Bruyne starts all the day”, he said.

The general consensus would likely be the same, considering the Manchester City legend’s sustained greatness for a decade at this point.

A number of reasons prove why Kevin De Bruyne is superior

While Martin Odegaard perhaps did outperform Kevin De Bruyne at certain points, Danny Murphy is right to pick the latter as the superior midfielder due to a couple of reasons.

Firstly, especially in a misfiring Manchester City team during the first half of last season where he was the sole chance creator, the 32-year-old was still operating at elite levels to ensure Erling Haaland was breaking records for fun.

To add to that, whether it be in the Premier League, in the Champions League or in other cup competitions, De Bruyne, as per usual was especially unplayable during the business end of the campaign and that too, while nursing an injury.

And finally, the five-time Premier League winner is an all-time conversations with some of the greatest midfielders in the history of the game.

As sensational a footballer as Odegaard is, he has quite a way to go to have match De Bruyne even in the previous term, who has arguably been past his prime for three years after his unforgettable 2019/2020 season.
