Ally McCoist raved about a moment of magic a Manchester City player produced for England in their late 2-1 victory against the Netherlands in the semi-final of Euro 2024.
After Ronald Koeman’s side went 1-0 up, courtesy of one of goals of the tournament from Xavi Simons — it seemed like the Dutch were ready to pull off an upset on paper.
However, Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins’ goals showcased that this England side is made of sterner stuff — pulling off yet another late comeback to progress to the next round.
As England face Spain on Sunday night, Phil Foden, unlike Kyle Walker and John Stones will have a chance of partaking in his first-ever final of the European Championship.

Ally McCoist praises “remarkable” skill from Phil Foden
When the Three Lions lost to Italy on penalties, Manchester City’s number 47 was ruled out of the contest due to a foot injury.
However, this time around, the 24-year-old has the chance to make a difference in what is arguably set to be the biggest game of his career.
In the first-half, the City midfielder made a smart run in behind, getting on the end of Kobbie Mainoo’s incisive pass to sort his feet out, before taking two touches and guiding the ball past Bart Verbruggen.
However, Denzel Dumfries was at the right place at the right time to control the ball off the line and clear it.
Ally McCoist was in awe of the silky footwork from Foden as England eventually went on to defeat the Netherlands.
The pundit told BBC Sport: “[Phil] Foden, unbelievable feet to take the touch. I thought it was over. The speed of his feet was remarkable.”
Foden has magic in his boots and he showed that in that moment for England against Netherlands
Like Ally McCoist, many naturally felt the through ball played by Mainoo was short and Foden had no chance of converting his pass into a potential goalscoring opportunity.
The Stockport-born technician showcased that he well and truly has magic in his boots to almost stun Ronald Koeman’s side.
Not many players in world football would have the technical precision and balance to get the ball out of their feet and get a shot on goal.
But Foden is one-of-a-kind and much like for Manchester City, he displayed for England that he can weave his magic in moments not many players looked like they were capable of on the pitch.
Ally McCoist, like millions who tuned into the clash worldwide was understandably left mesmerised by the 24-year-old’s genius.
