Ally McCoist names one ‘key’ player Man City are missing just as much as Rodri

Manchester City have been handed some significant injury blows this season.

After Oscar Bobb suffered a serious leg injury even before the 2024/25 Premier League campaign started, City saw Rodri suffer a season-ending knee injury in September.

Beyond that, other names from City’s squad have missed matches through various injury and fitness issues.

Ahead of the November international break, the Blues had lost four games on the bounce, something that a Pep Guardiola team had never done before.

With City’s domestic campaign set to resume this weekend with a league clash against Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium, this will give the champions a great opportunity to get back on track.

Now – however – a pundit has shared a claim regarding a specific player the Citizens have missed through injury in recent weeks.

Ally McCoist names ‘key’ player Man City are missing

On the subject of City’s poor recent run of form and their injury troubles, Ally McCoist suggested in a recent talkSPORT video that the Blues have been feeling the pinch of not having one particular figure in the team.

He said: “Do you know who I think is key for them? I think [Ruben] Dias the centre-half. I think he stabilises the, at the back as well and he doesn’t mind leaving himself one-v-one defensively.”

City have missed Dias

After seeing the defender miss the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth earlier this month, Guardiola said Dias would be out injured until the end of the November international break.

Having lost the three matches that Dias has missed, conceding eight goals in the process, this highlights how much the Blues have missed having the Portuguese international in their team.

With the third-highest total of clearances (21) and second-highest total of interceptions (10) in the City squad for the current Premier League campaign, this showcases what the champions have been missing.

Now that the November international break has ended, everyone at City, especially Guardiola, will be hoping that Dias can make a return to action and help his side get back to winning ways.
