Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has said that Erling Haaland ‘amazed’ him by promising to lead Manchester City to Champions League glory.

The Sky Blues chairman made this revelation on the club’s official YouTube channel, after being quizzed about the £51.2 million (Sky Sports) man.

With Erling Haaland previously having confessed to have been signed by Manchester City to win the Champions League, it seems he was as focused to do so in his initial conversation with Khaldoon Al-Mubarak.

Such has been the Norwegian superstar’s impact since joining the club that even Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney tipped him to win the Ballon d’Or and branded him as the ‘best footballer in the world.’

Scoring 52 goals in 53 games whilst being the protagonist to City’s treble triumph, Rooney’s opinion is far from an exaggeration as he has set the world alight at the Etihad Stadium.

Aside from being a generational striker, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has said that he was even more taken aback by Erling Haaland as a person and how confidently he vowed to ensure Manchester City win the Champions League.

“This was, I think, my first conversation, post him signing the contract. But what amazed me about Erling is the confidence. He’s got something special, confidence with respect. And to be having that conversation post signing your contract with your chairman and saying at the end of that conversation, ‘Mr. Chairman, I’m going to win the Champions League for you”, Al-Mubarak said.

Khaldoon Al-Mubarak continued to laud Erling Haaland, saying, “I’m here to win the Champions League for Manchester City and we’re going to win it’ a year ago is really a testament to the greatness of this player.”

Huge credit needs to be afforded to the 22-year-old who talked the talk and walk the walk to spearhead Manchester City’s greatest ever season to date.
