Kevin De Bruyne gave Oscar Bobb the credit he deserved after the pair combined to give Manchester City the win against Newcastle United.
The talismanic midfielder broke down how Bobb’s intelligent run and technical excellence allowed him to get an assist to his name during his post-match interview with TNT Sports (13/01/2024).
The Norwegian international scored his first-ever goal in the Premier League and in style for Manchester City.
Kevin De Bruyne praises Oscar Bobb after Manchester City beat Newcastle
After City’s 3-2 win against the Magpies, Paul Dickov raved about the 20-year-old, emphasising how smart his decision was to go past Martin Dubravka instead of trying to toe-poke the ball or take a shot.
Recently, Sky Blues youngster Micah Hamilton also described the teenager as a “top player”, who continues to make an impression when all eyes are fixated on him.
As Manchester City came back from the dead to punish Newcastle, Kevin De Bruyne praised Oscar Bobb.

“Yeah, the ball is good but you know, the run from Oscar [Bobb] is amazing because he goes in behind [Kieran] Trippier and the control at that pace and going around the ‘keeper [Martin Dubravka] in the last minute is top”, he told TNT Sports.
Rio Ferdinand quizzed the 32-year-old about whether Bobb’s run was what led him to play the pass that resulted in his assist.
“Yeah, I look at his run. If he doesn’t run, I can’t pass the ball so he dictates what I can do and then I try to do my best and give him the ball.”
Oscar Bobb did what several wingers at the club do not
It seems like since the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane as well as Riyad Mahrez, to an extent, not many wingers at the Etihad Stadium try to make runs in behind the opposition defence.
Phil Foden does from time to time but the wide forwards at the club tend not to usually.
However, as Kevin De Bruyne explained, Oscar Bobb did so in astute fashion, which enabled him when to play his lofted pass to him that led to the match-winning goal for Manchester City against Newcastle.
Despite Bobb not being a natural wideman, he seems to have a sense of when to exploit the space behind the opposition’s backline, which is another string to his bow.
