Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reserved special praise for Mateo Kovacic and Julian Alvarez.
Ahead of City’s upcoming clash against RB Leipzig, he reacted to his side’s latest 2-1 defeat against Wolves (via Manchester Evening News).
Pep Guardiola pointed to the missing players against Gary O’Neil’s side while lauding the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Julian Alvarez.

While the Croatian international looked out-of-sorts as Rodri’s replacement as a defensive midfielder, he has largely been excellent from day one since joining City.
As for the World Cup winner, branded as ‘extraordinary’ by Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, he has arguably been his side’s best player this season.
Now, Pep Guardiola has showered Mateo Kovacic and Julian Alvarez with praise while reflecting on the missing players against Wolves.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen this season. What the players have done is unbelievable. We concede two shots on target and we lost the game, that’s football. We have to improve yeah, the bases of what we did last season was [John] Stones, Rodri, Bernardo [Silva], [Kevin] De Bruyne, [Ilkay] Gundogan, [Jack] Grealish and they weren’t there. Sometimes you have to adjust something, it’s normal.”

Pep Guardiola is certainly right about how splendid both Mateo Kovacic and Julian Alvarez have been for Manchester City this campaign.
Kovacic has already formed a brilliant partnership in the middle of the park with Rodri, with his technical security, balletic ball-carrying ability and tendency to break the lines at will standing out up until now.
As for Alvarez, he has stepped up in the injured De Bruyne’s absence to become a vital contributor in terms of goals and assists as well.
Deservedly so, the pair have been hailed by Pep Guardiola.
