Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has branded Julian Alvarez ‘extraordinary’, following his exploits in 2022/23.

The 23-year-old could not have wished for a better first season at the Etihad Stadium, considering he arrived at the same time as Erling Haaland.

Alvarez finished the campaign with 17 goals to his name, which is a great return considering he was mostly behind the Norwegian superstar in the pecking order.

Alvarez constantly drew praise for impacting games despite not having too many minutes.

He really played his part in City’s Treble win, and City fans are rightly very excited about his potential.

And the fans not the only people excited about Alvarez…

He is extremely proud, and he acknowledged everyone from the players, to the fans, to all the staff that work for the club.

And he did speak about a few players in particular.

After talking about Erling Haaland saying to him that he would win City the Champions League, Khaldoon then spoke about good £14 million signing Alvarez has been.

He said (via mancity.com): “Another amazing young man. You look at what he’s achieved in this club already, but beyond that (too), what he’s achieved professionally over the last 12 months. It’s extraordinary.

“But again, (he’s) humble and a hard worker. He wants to constantly improve and that’s the mentality that you want in a young champion.”

It’s lovely to hear Khaldoon speaking about Alvarez and acknowledging what he’s done this season.

Obviously, Haaland is the main man at City and his goalscoring exploits do overshadow the work of some of the other players.

But Alvarez was brilliant for City when called upon.

He more than played his part in the Treble win and it’s exciting to think what kind of level he could reach in the next few years. And he will surely be sticking around, despite other teams already wanting to sign him.

Hopefully, he just remains hungry. It sounds like he will given what Khaldoon has said, and that points to him potentially becoming one of the game’s top players
