Andy Townsend has suggested Manchester City to try everything they can to keep hold of Bernardo Silva beyond this season.
The renowned commentator was on talkSPORT, making a combined XI between Manchester United’s treble winning side and this current City team when the £43.6 million (Guardian) man’s name came up.
While Andy Townsend lauded Bernardo Silva, he also said that Manchester City would miss him if he decided to leave in the summer.
Andy Townsend says Manchester City will really miss Bernardo Silva if he leaves
Before the Sky Blues’ FA Cup triumph, even Pep Guardiola admitted that his ‘hope’ was that the 2-1 victory against Manchester United was not his final game at the club.
While the Portuguese international’s contract expires in 2025, he has been close to leaving the Etihad Stadium since the summer of 2020.
Now, Andy Townsend has said that it would be far from ideal for Manchester City if Bernardo Silva bids farewell to the club.

“I’m such a fan of Bernardo Silva. I think he’s such an unbelievable little player. I think they’ll really miss him. If he does go after this because there’s been talk about him maybe leaving, hasn’t there? For a while now.”
“If he goes, they’re going to miss him. He’s a top player.”
Any team in the world would miss Bernardo Silva if he left
It’s impossible to disagree with Andy Townsend as not just Manchester City but any team in the world would miss Bernardo Silva if he headed elsewhere.
The five-time Premier League winner is simply an absurdly complete footballer; an elite dribbler, a world-class controller in midfield, a top winger, a defensive engine, tactically versatile and the ultimate big-game player.
It is clear to see that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City cherish Bernardo Silva and have no intention to let him go.
But at the end of the day, if a player has been eyeing an exit for a while, there is not much any side can do after a point apart from open the door and show them the way out.
