Arsenal have been rivalling Manchester City to win the Premier League title for the past two seasons.
In City’s Treble-winning campaign, Mikel Arteta’s side finished just five points behind the Manchester club in second place.
Following that, Arsenal closed the gap from five to two as Pep Guardiola’s side had to seal a victory on the final day of the season against West Ham United last term to seal their fourth consecutive league trophy.
In terms of this current title race, Micah Richards recently said that the injury to Rodri has given City and Arsenal a 50-50 chance of winning the league.
Now though, it has been claimed that the Gunners could now be looking to rival City for the signing of a player the Blues and other European giants have had their eyes on.
- Man City transfer rumours: Every player linked to and from the Etihad in summer transfer window

Arsenal join transfer race to sign Man City target
In a recent post shared on his official X account, journalist Christian Falk had this to say on the matter.
He said: “Arsenal is interested in Florian Wirtz (21), Bayer Leverkusen (contract til 2027).
“Wirtz wants to leave the Club in Summer 2025. Leverkusen want a Transfer-Fee of €150 Mio [£124m].
“FC Bayern, Real Madrid and Manchester City also are interested in Wirtz.”
City and Arsenal have been involved in a transfer battle before
If the two English clubs were to try and sign the Bayer Leverkusen star next summer, this wouldn’t be the first time they would be involved in a transfer battle.
Specifically, the 2023 summer window saw Arsenal land a £105m move for Declan Rice after City saw their bid of £90m rejected by West Ham United for the midfielder according to Sky Sports.
Having scored 47 goals and delivered 51 assists in 159 appearances for Leverkusen, it’s easy to see why Wirtz has so many top sides looking to sign him.
Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, if City feel that the 21-year-old would be a suitable addition to their squad and is worth the significant fee it would take to sign him, they should do all they can to beat Arsenal to his signature and bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
