Man City transfer news: Aston Villa plotting Kalvin Phillips swoop

A report has claimed that Aston Villa are interested in a transfer involving Kalvin Phillips in the summer.

The £42 million (Athletic) man has struggled for playing time this season, due to injuries and Rodri being an ever-present figure in the XI.

It seems Aston Villa are now ready to tempt Kalvin Phillips into a transfer a year after he joined the Premier League champions.

Aston Villa keen on Kalvin Phillips transfer

Perhaps the puzzling aspect about the England international’s time at the club has been that even after becoming fit, he has not particularly impressed in rare starts and cameo appearances.

For instance, in his side’s recent 3-1 victory against Leicester City, Phillips himself admitted that he had a ‘bit of a stinker’ off the bench.

N1 have made a claim that Aston Villa are now hatching a plot to complete a summer transfer involving Kalvin Phillips, who was branded as an ‘intelligent player’ by Pep Guardiola once.

Furthermore, Mateo Kovacic, whose agents are reported to be in London to open talks with City, as per a claim on Friday is viewed as the replacement for him.

MCN View: Kalvin Phillips’ future may split opinion within the fanbase

One can imagine that while half the Manchester City fanbase will be happy to see Kalvin Phillips join Unai Emery’s side in a summer transfer, the others will be perplexed by the decision.

While Phillips being unimpressive is the general consensus, some acknowledge that he has barely played and lacks rhythm while others simply want him to leave.

Furthermore, Romeo Lavia’s potential return is a temptation for any and every City supporter as he continues to look the part at Southampton.

Considering the likes of Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and Jack Grealish took huge leaps in terms of their showings in their second seasons, the midfield dynamo should back his own redemption arc.

Ultimately, any move from the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League is a definite downgrade.
